Q Look a like

Yes, the eagle eyed amongst you will spot that this is a com*act di*c, but I was fascinated to see how a design which started life back in 1967 is still resonating through graphic design life 35 years on.
It was a cover mounted giveaway from the funsters at Q magazine (I gave up on Q many years ago as it seemed to fossilise around 1998 and settle into premature middle age), with ‘the year’s essential tracks’ from 2004.
But the designers (three are listed which seems a tad excessive for a 4 page CD booklet but still) clearly had the bright idea to reference the Top Of The Pops look and layout, even to the extent of sourcing a vintage pin-up cover girl (which isn’t credited).
We’ve got a load of these look a likes lined up for the Top Of The Pops book needless to say, though annoyingly the gay club in Guildford which uses the TOTPs cover style for their posters won’t answer our emails…
